Felixstowe 50 Reads

Published: 1 October, 2026

We are excited to launch The Felixstowe 50 Reads, an initiative designed to encourage students to discover the enjoyment and benefits of reading for pleasure.

Research consistently shows that regular reading helps to improve vocabulary, writing skills, academic achievement and overall wellbeing. To support and develop a lifelong love of reading, we have carefully selected 50 books covering a range of genres, authors and themes, ensuring there is something to inspire every student.

Students can work through the challenge at their own pace and in any order they choose. Once they have finished a book, they can visit Mrs Glanfield or Mrs Evans at lunchtime for a short discussion about what they have read. Successful completion will earn a stamp in their reading log and count towards the challenge.

There are rewards available throughout the challenge, including Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, with students who complete all 50 books receiving a Felixstowe 50 Pin Badge, a certificate and additional rewards to celebrate their achievement.

We hope students will embrace the challenge, explore new authors, broaden their reading horizons and discover just how rewarding reading can be. Parents can play a key role by encouraging reading at home and discussing books with their children as they progress through the challenge. Happy reading! 📚✨
